Ex-Nevada assemblyman to stand trial for chase Judge rules sufficient evidence against Brooks

VICTORVILLE • A judge ruled Tuesday that ex-Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks will stand trial for multiple criminal charges four months after a high-speed pursuit along Interstate 15 ended with his arrest in Victorville.

An officer testified at the Victorville co u r t h o u s e t h at Brooks turned his vehicle sideways across lanes during the chase while extending his middle finger toward officers, threw a 5-to-10-pound jack out the window of his vehicle and later assaulted a police dog.

A San Bernardino Superior Court judge on Tuesday described a former standout high school wrestler as a narcissist and said he lacked remorse for his sexual misconduct involving two teenage girls.

Judge Art Harrison sentenced 19-year-old Seth Whisner to the maximum penalty under the terms of Whisner's June 7 plea agreement with county prosecutors: 5 years supervised probation.


90-year-old San Bernardino woman beaten and robbed at home

SAN BERNARDINO -- Sheriff's deputies have arrested an 18-year-old San Bernardino man and are looking for another in connection with the beating and robbery of a 90-year-old woman at her home Thursday.

San Bernardino County sheriff's officials said the pair told the woman they were searching for a lost dog to convince her to let them in her backyard.
